A thermoformed container is a plastic part created by heating a flat plastic sheet to a pliable forming temperature and then shaping it over a mold using vacuum pressure. The result is a rigid, custom-shaped enclosure or container trimmed to precise dimensions. Thermoforming is widely used for dispensing enclosures, material handling trays, and custom OEM parts because of its low tooling costs and design flexibility.

Hill Plastics works with ABS, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), PETG, High Temperature ABS, UV-Resistant ASA/ABS, KYDEX, Polystyrene, and decorative foil-laminated materials. Prototyping timelines depend on design complexity, but master patterns are typically CNC-milled from wood and ready within a few weeks. Prototypes can follow shortly after the pattern is mounted on a mold base. This fast, low-cost approach allows engineers to review fit and function before committing to final aluminum production tooling, keeping overall project schedules tight.

Vacuum forming is a type of thermoforming. Thermoforming is the broad process of heating a plastic sheet and forming it over a mold; vacuum forming specifically uses air suction to pull the heated sheet tightly against the mold surface. At Hill Plastics, all vacuum forming is performed as part of our thermoforming process, producing precise, consistent enclosure shapes across both prototype and production runs.

Our 4'x7' rotary thermoforming machine cycles 2.5 times faster than standard equipment for high-volume efficiency, while our eight total thermoforming machines and 20,000+ sq ft facility provide the capacity to scale production as your project demands grow.

After thermoforming, our CNC trimming centers perform precision routing, contour cutting, drilling, and edge finishing. Additional fabrication operations include heat bending, bonding, riveting, threaded insert installation, and fastener preparation. These secondary operations are applied in-house to deliver fully finished, assembly-ready enclosure parts that meet your drawing specifications without requiring additional vendors.
